Writing around the Web
It’s a lazy, sunny Sunday here in New Zealand. My husband and I have just purchased a 4 acre lifestyle block – eeee! – and it is sucking away every moment of free time we have right now. It’s wonderful to be spending so much time outside, doing physical labour, feeling the satisfaction of dirt under your nails and a sun on your arms. I haven’t had such restful sleep in years! We have a lot of work ahead of us before we can even begin to build our dream home, but we’re excited about building our future in this place.
Since it’s a lazy Sunday, and you might be spending the day thinking about your business and catching up on your Internet reading, I thought I’d link you up to some of my most recent articles for writers and small businesses around the web:
Creative Content Ideas for Small Businesses on Home Biz Buzz
Home Biz Buzz is a popular local site for SMEs and small business owners. Recently I wrote a lengthly article offering business owners some ideas for adding real creative flair to their marketing copy. Part of the reason i write for businesses (apart from the millions of dollars and the yacht, of course) is that I love helping business owners come up with creative marketing ideas that engage customers in new ways. Customers are pretty savvy to marketing techniques, and it’s easy for them to ignore adverts and more traditional marketing methods, but you CAN create a marketing plan that your customers can’t ignore.
Blogger for Hire: How to Find Blogging Jobs on Daily Blog Tips
Daily Blog Tips is exactly what it sounds like – a daily dose of advice and inspiration for bloggers. This is a must-read article for writers considering breaking into freelance blogging, which has been a huge part of my business over the last few years. In this article I explain how I find higher-paying blogging jobs – so if you think the “30 articles for $30 bucks” adverts that abound on Craigslist are the sum total of the blogging marketplace, it’s time to re-evaluate your efforts.
‘Tis the Season for Kicking Ass: Marketing Ideas for Christmas Success on Marketing Creativity
I’ve got a new monthly spot writing about marketing for handmade businesses on Marketing Creativity, a fantastic site dedicated to helping Etsy sellers and other creatives thrive. This article offers some marketing ideas for the upcoming Christmas season, and, although it’s geared specifically toward people who create handmade products from their home, it might be helpful for other businesses, too.
The Pros and Cons of Creating Commissioned Artwork for Collectors on Empty Easel
I write a weekly column on marketing your artwork on Empty Easel, one of the biggest sites online dedicated to technique and business advice for artists. This article looks at whether artists should consider taking on custom commissions – and what exactly commissions mean for an art biz. You can find links to all my previous Empty Easel posts on my published writing page.
Social Media for Authors on The Picture Book Academy
And, lastly but definitely not leastly, I’m appearing as a special guest talking about blogging and social media for writers in Mira Reisberg’s upcoming course – the Craft and Business of Writing Children’s Books. I’ve had the chance to sample all the course material and I can tell you this course is AMAZING for both experienced and aspiring children’s writers. Mira is an award-winning author, mentor and illustrator with sales of her own books reaching six-digits, and she is a kind and creative teacher. Thoroughly recommended! Check out the course here. (And no, this is not an affiliate link).
So that’s my Internet wanderings for the week. What about you? Have you published a guest post or appeared on another site lately? Why not share in the comments!
